Ah summer..days full of outdoor activities and nights full of rest and relaxation. You’ve probably got your own list of things you want to do this summer. But what about your dog? How can you help make this season just as memorable for them as it is for you? While being spontaneous can be exciting, it never hurts to have a list of fun dog games and activities you can always turn to. After all, it can be easy to get in a rut. But Rover probably loves variety too!
Luckily for you and your pal, we’ve come up with a list of fun dog games you both can enjoy. So mix it up by adding these keepers to your list:
Time To Get Out The Frisbee
Frisbees scream summertime and playing frisbee is similar to another game most dogs adore. Can you guess which one? Fetch, of course! Playing frisbee with your dog is basically fetch with a flair. And your dog is sure to love it. The gliding motion of the frisbee is different from simply throwing a stick or a ball. Be sure to use a soft disc frisbee, though. If a frisbee disc is too hard or thrown too forcefully it may cause harm to your dog.
Did Someone Say Bubbles?
Most dogs love a good chase and that’s why bubbles can be so thrilling. This summer, grab some bubbles and blow ‘em your dog’s way! They’ll love chasing and popping them all over the yard. If you’re wanting to kick things up a notch, use an automatic bubble machine. Hundreds of bubbles being blown out every minute? Yes please! Your dog is sure to have endless fun when a bubble machine’s around.
But there are a few caveats to mention. For starters, you’ll never want to leave an open container of bubbles out and about and supervision is always key. Most importantly, for the safety of your dog, opt for a non-toxic bubble solution that won’t cause harm when bubbles pop close to their eyes, nose, or mouth.
Beach Ball Fun
While every dog has their own unique personality, including their own set of likes and dislikes, some things seem to be universal in the canine world. Most dogs love chasing balls! And for many, bouncing a ball on the tip of their nose is loads of fun too. And this brings up our next fun dog game: beach balls! Beach balls are so lightweight and easy to play with. This minimalist game requires little effort on your part and playing with one is a great way for your dog to exert any pent up energy. All you need is some space and a beach ball – and watch them go. If it’s an especially hot day, why not set up a doggy pool too? Your dog can chase their beach ball to their heart’s content and then cool off with an occasional dip.
SandBox Digging
If you’ve got a digger on your hands, we’ve got a fun dog game for you! Bury some treasure in the sandbox and allow your pupper to dig, dig, dig! To make this game extra special, reward them after finding their prized treasure. This could look like cuddles, an extra round of digging, or their favorite treat. Blue Ridge Naturals doggy treats are perfect for summer rewards. They’re easy to hand out and loaded with ingredients known for their nutrition. Plus, many dogs seem to agree: they taste amazing too! Check out our variety of treats here. Not sure which one to get? Our Alaskan Salmon Topper Treats are bite-sized and a fan favorite.
DIY Backyard Agility Course
Is Fido itching for some excitement? Are you a bit crafty? Consider putting together a homemade agility course. It’s like multiple fun dog games in one! Your furry friend can release any wound up energy by weaving in and out of different obstacles, climbing, jumping, running, and more. This exhilarating activity can be a fun change from the norm and puts many different skills to the test. And don’t forget to treat them after successfully completing the course!
Cool ‘Em Off With Water Games
Nothing beats the heat quite like a game of water fun. For this reason, consider setting up a water sprinkler. Your dog can cool off and enjoy some fun doggy thrills. Toss in some of your dog’s favorite troys and it’s like a homemade waterpark! Chasing the stream of a garden hose or swimming in a doggy pool are other fun dog games and the perfect summer activities.
The most fun dog games are the ones you and your dog can enjoy together, time and time again. Add in some familiar toys and favorite treats and you’re sure to take those fun dog games up a notch! Want to learn more about dog care? Read “How to Keep Dogs Cool in the Summer”
